We are welcoming Nicole and Trent's new franchise, Bio-One South Texas, to the team!
Nicole Laster, PhD
Owner, Bio-One South Texas
Prior to opening up Bio-One South Texas, Dr. Laster worked for five years as a social scientist for the U.S. Army's Human Terrain Program. She moved to San Antonio in early 2013 and spent the last three years at U.S. Army North, a three-star command, providing research and analysis in support of her command’s information requirements.
Laster returned from Afghanistan in August 2012 where she spent eight months supporting several U.S. Army units. As a deployed social scientist, she served as a combat advisor in Bagram Afghanistan in support of 1st Calvary, served on the Brigade Combat Team staff and conducted research in support of the 82nd Airborne in Southeastern Afghanistan. She also participated in a special research initiative near the Pakistan border with Special Operations. Her work contributed to a greater understanding of the local populations and contributed to critical military decision making by U.S. Army leaders in combat zones.
Prior to working for the U.S. Army, Dr. Laster spent twelve years in higher education. Her teaching, service and research served the communities of Kansas State University, The University of Texas at Austin, and Clemson University in South Carolina. Additionally she worked as a Visiting Professor in the South Pacific at The University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Laster is a military brat. Both of her parents served in the U.S. Armed Forces and she spent her childhood moving from military location to military location around the globe. Graduating from a Kansas high school, Laster earned a Bachelor’s degree at The University of Kansas; a Master’s from Kansas State University, and moved to Texas where she earned a Doctorate at The University of Texas. While in Central Texas, she fell in love with the people of Central and South Texas, now making it her home after closing out her military service at U.S. Army North at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
After teaching and serving the Army, Laster was looking for the right opportunity to help and serve people in difficult times. Her education has developed a passion for understanding science, her training in the classroom cultivating the educator and in her, her experience in combat zones creating a resiliency about her, and her global exposure a perspective and respect for cultural difference.
